CAROL BLUE ADAMS (2009)
Occupation/Employer Retired teacher
Marital Status Married/In a committed relationship
Family Stats (kids, grandkids, pets, etc.) Married David Adams in 1967. Shauna was born in 1969; Rodney, 1972. Shauna & Dave gave us our three precious granddaughters, 15, 12 & 9. They live in the Portland area. Our son lives in Boise and has just completed a cabin in McCall that he designed and helped build. Both our children graduated from Borah. My mother is 92 and lives nearby in the house Daddy built for us 60 years ago.
General Life Update Since Borah, I've been in Boise all but four years (1959-61) BJC, (1961-64) Taught 1st & 2nd graders. (1964-66) U of Idaho, (1966-68) Taught 8th grade English & reading. (1981-84) classroom sub. (1984-98) Taught 2nd graders at Cole Christian School. The "teacher part of me" stays fulfilled with my Sunday School children and also subbing for Title 1 teachers at Whitney School. I will begin my 10th year there in the fall in a brand new building at the same location. Since my husband retired from United Airlines as a customer service lead agent 12 years ago, he has been driving charter buses for Interwest. We enjoy traveling by car, motor home, plane and occasionally ship.
A Favorite Borah Memory We were in a unique position, attending Boise High for one year and Borah the next. I'm glad for that opportunity. I was excited knowing that Mr. Hicks would be my principal again, having enjoyed his leadership at Whitney. It was a perfectly normal school year until December 6. Tragically, in one moment in time, I lost my father, and life was never the same for my mother and me. Day by day, God led us through that valley. I was able to finish my senior year strong, go thru BJC on two PTA scholarships (totaling $250) and teach for 3 years on my AA degree before continuing my education.

Occupation/Employer I retired in 2008 after working for Ada County for approximately 20 years, including working in the Treasurer's Office as a Deputy Clerk, researching info for Tax Deeds and locating actual current owners of properties. I later transferred to the county's indigent services, Ada County Welfare, where I worked both as a Clerk Typist and as a Service Worker. Within that time span, I returned to school and updated my degree in Music Education grades K - 12 and earned a BA in Elementary Education. I actually only taught for a short time as a substitute before returning to work at the County.
Marital Status Married to George Nickelsen 42 years.
Family Stats (kids, grandkids, pets, etc.) Daughter Mary, married to Fred Fischer, churc and rock musicians. Their children Christian, 17; Elliot, 14; Ian, 12; and Jude, 6. Mary worked at Micron for several years and then spent full time along with Fred in supporting the boys while they were active in Scouts, sports, and currently in music, school and church.
Hobbies I enjoy reading, knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking (although I haven't been active for awhile), photography, and am a member of the Boise Bead Society where I enjoy beading with some very special women! I also enjoy camping at Lake Cascade, and other places in Idaho.
General Life Update After I graduated from Borah, I studied Music Education on a voice scholarship at Arizona State University in Tempe, graduating with a BA. I started work on a Master's Degree in Music at ASU but transferred after my first semester to follow my fiance at the time to attend the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester (NY). I was close to completing my Master's Degree there when my husband, William Read (married in 1968 in Mayfield, NY, near where we both studied at Chautauqua, NY, and sang with the opera company during the summers) got his draft call and off we went to Georgia while he went through basic training at Ft. Benning and I stayed with his parents in Rome, GA. We spent about a year at Ft. Lee, Alexandria, before Will was accepted into the US Army Chorus at Ft. Meyer. I stayed behind to finish out the year teaching kindergarten and music at Ft. Lee. I then moved up to Arlington. In 1972, we were blessed with the birth of little Mary and eventually bought a home in Alexandria. After Will finished his time with the Army Chorus, we moved to Ossining, NY, home of Sing Sing Prison! Will was the choir director and youth director at the Presbyterian Church in Ossining, repaired TVs and drove a cab part time in NYC, where he also continued his voice studies while I taught piano lessons at home. Will envetually was contracted to sing with the Israeli National Opera Company and left for Tel Aviv during October and I stayed in Ossining to pack up our stuff, store it and sell the house. Mary and I joined him just before Christmas. We eventually divorced (amicably), he remarried and George & I married in 1977. I became an Office Manager for a 3-pediatrician office in White Plains, NY, then worked at a large insurance brokerage in Briarcliff, where I got to start using computers. My last job before moving back to Boise was for EEV, who manufactures magnetrons used in flights into space. When we came to Boise so George could meet my folks, he loved it here so much that he applied for a job at a local auto dealer and a year later we moved to Boise. Since moving back to Boise, I've been a soloist with the Boise Master Chorale and sung roles with Boise Opera. I was honored to be asked to sing the role of Micaela in the opera Carmen, one of the musical events to celebrate the opening of the Morrison Center. One of my great musical pleasures was singing and touring with the Whitney Women's Chorale to places in Canada, the Western US and trips to England, Scotland and Wales. That's how I finally got to visit Stonehenge, something I'd wanted to see since I saw an article in Dad's National Geographic, when I was just a little girl!
